Maybe have Detective Justice think he solved the mystery but it was actually all wrapped up by one of the more normal characters - like if Justice's girlfriend and his mom figured it all out and he just stumbled into it because he was forced to rescue them.

Good luck!

DWDDWDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18410063427689693237noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7354570702071119213.post-12286854641568051112022-05-26T00:21:56.800-04:002022-05-26T00:21:56.800-04:00Thanks a lot for picking up my book! Though I went back to tone down earlier sections, it definitely feels uneven at times. Typos with the guns…shoot me with a dessert eagle! I think I'll pass on this one and wait for hopefully a better one on the same subject to come out!karen511https://www.blogger.com/profile/06783751898774753660noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7354570702071119213.post-29353778078112138652018-10-10T14:16:08.019-04:002018-10-10T14:16:08.019-04:00Thanks, DWD. Like the reviewer above indicated, the book seemed like a publicity stunt. I expected a superficial goofy story with tearjerker anecdotes.

I was wrong. It’s a really wonderful book. I spent the last year reading several classic recommended books on teaching, by Wilber McKeachie and Parker Palmer, among others.

Mr. Danza’s book was a little like all these other books combined. It included his disasters, his successes, his conversations with students and other teachers, advice he is given, his own reflections, from how to engage students to what ails public education.

I’m really not doing the book justice. For someone new to teaching, read it. I teach at a community college, so you don’t even have to be a secondary school teacher to like this book. It’s one of the best books I’ve read at this crazy time in my life. I'd appreciate it if you would post your review on Amazon.

I'm not sure what kind of information a reader might want to know about Nogales High School in the Rowland Unified School District.

When I retired in 2005 and left Nogales, there were about 100 teachers and maybe 2,600+ students. However, when I transferred to Nogales from a middle school in the same district for the 1989-90 school year, there were more than 3,000 students at the high school and portable classrooms seemed to fill every available space between the original brick and mortar buildings.

At the time, more than 70% of the students were Hispanic/Latino and more than 70% were on free or reduced meals that included breakfast and lunch. About 8% were black, 8% white and 8% Asian.

I visited the Nogales Website recently and the school report card reveals that the Latino/Hispanic student population has increased to 80% and the black and white student population has all but vanished, while the Filipino/Asian student population has increased to about 14%.

You might find this interesting. One of the history teachers, who retired a few years before I did, actually did a comparison of student standardized test results in relation to teachers based on time spent teaching, and the results revealed that students in classes with more experienced teachers who had more time teaching had the most gains on those annual tests year after year, while the newer teachers with less experience in the classroom had the least gains.

It’s too bad that the corporate reformers who are attempting to destroy the democratic public schools to make a profit off tax payers will not admit that veteran teachers are more skilled and valuable than the average teacher starting out. I read somewhere that it takes about 5 to 10 years for the average teacher to develop the best classroom management and teaching skills, and it helps a lot when there are veteran teachers around who are willing to help teachers starting out.

As for my personal life at the time, I didn't write much about it in the daily journal, because I thought that if I focused on the marriage and the growing discord and challenges that eventually led to a divorce several years later, it might have overshadowed the teaching. And now that so many years have gone by since then, I’ve forgotten many of the details that would make my life outside of school meaningful and worth reading. Both my wife and I were teachers and our lives were dominated by our jobs in and out of school. It’s very difficult for most teachers to leave the job behind when they go home---even during those summer weeks away from the classroom.
Lloyd Lofthousehttp://lloydlofthouse.org/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7354570702071119213.post-10068134729574910832014-10-07T23:23:18.310-04:002014-10-07T23:23:18.310-04:00Just for general information, the best photograph ...Just for general information, the best photograph of Johnston is shown above. It was taken in 1857 by a photographer named Bush in Salt Lake City. It shows the brevet brigadier general still wearing his colonel's tunic wit h his newly added brigadier stars. The generals barrel chest is quite obvious showing a powerful man of great magnetism. He had just quelled the Mormon uprising quickly and with minor loss of life for which he was promoted. Like most Western plates the original is not in the greatest shape.
The general was in Richmond in September 1861 for only a few days before heading west. He did report to the quartermaster's supply there where a full general's regulation tunic awaited him. I don't have any information but I suspect Jefferson Davis had it made for him. There was certainly no time for any portrait sittings unfortunately.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7354570702071119213.post-49263973351671497642014-10-07T23:08:46.097-04:002014-10-07T23:08:46.097-04:00It is completely unfair to compare Lee and Johnsto...It is completely unfair to compare Lee and Johnston. Had Lee been killed in his first campaign in Western Virginia he would be remembered, if at all, as a very minor figure.
At the time of Johnston's death his Shiloh campaign had to be considered brilliantly successful in every way for a first outing. He would have surely grown in stature as did Lee. His loss was a crippling blow to the Confederacy as those commanders following him were all found wanting. The Confederacy never again achieved the virtual destruction of a Union Army that they had up until 2:30PM on April 6, 1862.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7354570702071119213.post-64533035267301243542014-07-08T20:25:44.764-04:002014-07-08T20:25:44.764-04:00Ernie seemed to be devoted to reporting the war an...Ernie seemed to be devoted to reporting the war and the soldiers as just people in an impossible situation and somehow cope.
